Over the years Ive often stayed up late and got up about 9 Am. But something changed... One morning I woke up at 4 Am.. I could not go back to sleep. So I got up let the dog out and open my Bible and read then felt energized to start the day. I made 2 Loaves of Bread and then proceeded to make Lotion bars.. Seems like thy are fab for men! I made a couple of dozen then proceeded back to the kitchen to fill the crock pot with meat and vegs ... By then i was ready for something in my system. Im not usually a breakfast eater or coffee drinker but i need something. So out comes the Ninja. and i make my morning smoothie. 1 Apple 1 Orange Cup of mixed berries. 1 scoop of protein powder ( I like Vanilla) and a scoop of beet powder ( Lowered my Blood Pressure) This is very energetic and filling. Since the Holidays are here I turn on the Christmas Music and lights and enjoy the morning. Watching the sun come up is so refreshing. I wish I had done this sooner. • Simple Ideas  for the Holidays

#1  Prayer ... God get us through! Church is most important to us. As the holiday season approaches, we find solace and strength in the power of prayer. It serves as a guiding light, reminding us of the importance of faith and community during this special time of year. Attending church not only deepens our connection with God but also reinforces our bonds with fellow congregants, creating a sense of belonging and support that is especially vital during the holidays. Together, we gather to celebrate the birth of Christ, reflecting on His teachings and the love that we are called to share with one another. #2  Being Grateful... Gratitude is a cornerstone of our holiday celebrations. Taking time to reflect on the blessings we have received throughout the year allows us to appreciate the little things that often go unnoticed. It could be the warmth of our home, the love of family and friends, or even the simple joys of everyday life. We make it a point to express our gratitude not only in our prayers but also in our actions. This can mean writing thank-you notes, sharing our blessings with others, or simply taking a moment each day to acknowledge what we are thankful for. #3  Staying focused. In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it is easy to become distracted by the commercial aspects of the festivities. However, we strive to remain focused on the true meaning of the holidays. This involves prioritizing our time and energy towards activities that align with our values, such as spending quality time with loved ones, engaging in acts of kindness, and participating in community service. By keeping our focus on what truly matters, we can foster a more meaningful and fulfilling holiday experience. For unto us a Child is Born... This beautiful proclamation serves as a reminder of the miracle of Christmas and the hope that it brings. Each year, we take time to reflect on the significance of the birth of Jesus Christ, recognizing that it symbolizes love, hope, and redemption. We share this message with our family and friends, often through the singing of carols that narrate the story of His birth. These songs not only fill our hearts with joy but also serve as a means of spreading the message of peace and goodwill to all. Yes, we sing carols and we always give back Our charity is so fulfilling Caroling has become a cherished tradition in our home. Not only do we enjoy the melodies and harmonies, but we also use this opportunity to spread cheer and goodwill to those around us. Additionally, we believe that giving back is a vital part of the holiday spirit. Each year, we choose a charity or cause to support, whether it be through donations, volunteering our time, or organizing events to raise awareness. This act of giving not only enriches the lives of those we help but also fills our hearts with a profound sense of purpose and fulfillment. Operation Gift a Vet Stocking’s for Medically confined Veterans. One of the most rewarding initiatives we participate in is Operation Gift a Vet. This program focuses on creating care packages, or stockings, for veterans who are medically confined and unable to celebrate the holidays in the traditional sense. We gather items such as warm socks, hygiene products, and festive treats to include in the stockings. Knowing that our efforts can bring a smile to someone who has sacrificed so much for our country is incredibly heartwarming. It reinforces our belief in the importance of recognizing and honoring our veterans, especially during the holiday season.   Sometimes it's just my husband and myself for Christmas and when it is we go see a movie. There are occasions when the holiday season is quieter, just my husband and me. In those moments, we cherish the opportunity to enjoy each other’s company in a more intimate setting. One of our favorite traditions is to go out and see a holiday movie. This simple outing allows us to immerse ourselves in the festive spirit while enjoying the magic of storytelling. It’s a delightful way to unwind and create lasting memories together, even when we are not surrounded by a large gathering. But one year we decided to do something different... Reflecting on our past holiday experiences, we realized that we wanted to make a more significant impact on those around us. Thus, we decided to break from our usual routine and embark on a new adventure that would not only bring us joy but also spread warmth to others. This decision marked the beginning of a new holiday tradition in our lives. It didn’t cost much, and it was worth it! What we planned was not extravagant or costly, but the value it brought was immeasurable. We wanted to create an atmosphere of warmth and togetherness, so we organized an afternoon tea for those who might not have a place to go during the holidays. This gathering was a heartfelt invitation to our friends and neighbors, especially those who might be feeling lonely or isolated during this festive time. We hosted an afternoon tea for those who did have any place to go. Our afternoon tea quickly turned into a delightful event filled with laughter, conversation, and connection. We decorated our home with festive touches, creating a cozy and inviting environment. The aroma of freshly brewed tea and baked goods filled the air, setting the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of camaraderie. Inviting others into our home not only enriched our holiday experience but also fostered a sense of community that we cherished deeply. We already had cookies and desserts and all we had to do was make egg salad and chicken salad tiny sandwiches. Fortunately, we already had a variety of cookies and desserts prepared, which made the planning much easier. To complement these sweet treats, we decided to whip up some delightful egg salad and chicken salad sandwiches cut into small, dainty portions. These tiny sandwiches were not only easy to eat but also added a savory touch to our spread. They were a hit among our guests, who appreciated the thoughtful selection of food as they mingled and enjoyed each other’s company. Hubby gets a nice shrimp tray and he loves making cheese and crackers.. My husband, always eager to contribute, took it upon himself to create a beautiful shrimp tray that added a touch of elegance to our gathering. He also has a knack for assembling a delightful cheese and cracker platter, which quickly became a favorite among our guests. The combination of flavors and textures made for a wonderful addition to our tea, encouraging everyone to indulge and savor the moment. It was heartening to see our guests enjoy the spread we had prepared with love and care. There you have it. With everything coming together beautifully, we felt a sense of accomplishment and joy. The preparations, though simple, created an atmosphere of warmth and generosity that resonated throughout our home. Each detail, from the food to the decorations, was crafted with the intention of making our guests feel cherished and welcomed. This experience solidified our belief in the power of community and the joy that comes from sharing our blessings with others. Then we polish the silver tea pots and bring on the tea!! The final touch to our gathering involved polishing our cherished silver teapots, which had been passed down through generations. As we prepared to serve the tea, there was a sense of excitement in the air. We carefully selected a variety of teas to cater to different tastes, ensuring that everyone could find something they enjoyed. The act of pouring tea into delicate cups became a cherished ritual, symbolizing hospitality and warmth, as we shared stories and laughter around the table. He have sparkling juice and sometimes Champagne. To add a festive flair to our gathering, we also offered sparkling juice and, on special occasions, Champagne for those who wished to indulge. These beverages not only complemented our tea but also contributed to the celebratory atmosphere we aimed to create. The clinking of glasses and the toasts we shared filled the room with joy and laughter, reminding us of the importance of celebrating life’s moments, both big and small. A light punch filled with leftover fruits. In addition to tea and sparkling beverages, we prepared a refreshing light punch, creatively utilizing leftover fruits from our holiday preparations. This colorful concoction not only added a vibrant touch to our table but also provided a refreshing option for our guests. The punch became a delightful conversation starter, as everyone enjoyed the unique blend of flavors and the creativity behind its creation. It was a simple yet effective way to ensure that everyone felt included and catered to during our gathering.   People come in and we have laughs and often we see some whom we have not seen all year ad that feels The doorbell rang, and one by one, our guests arrived, bringing with them an air of excitement and joy. As they entered, we were greeted with warm smiles and heartfelt hugs. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, stories, and the sound of clinking teacups. It was a wonderful feeling to reconnect with friends and acquaintances, some of whom we had not seen in quite some time. These reunions were heartwarming, as we shared updates about our lives and reminisced about cherished memories. The warmth of friendship and community filled our home, making it a truly special holiday gathering that we would cherish for years to come. wonderful!   But there is one secret thing we do...🎁 2 days before Christmas eve we take red bows and tie them to the mailboxes in our neighborhood Often those bows are there till spring and tis such a pleasure to give back! But we do have a scrooge who always takes it down just after we put it up.  BUT that has not stopped us ... Yes we are blessed... Happy weeks before Christmas Theresa

How To Make It Through The Holidays with these 10 tips How To Make It Through... Dr Theresa Phillips RedeemandRenew@hotmail.com   Yes, the Holidays are upon us and many of us will not see our families for various reasons.   Yet, we can still enjoy the holidays and feel blessed. Here are a few tips I can give you as I venture into the holidays.   1 If you want to cook...invite someone over for Thanksgiving who has no place to go. Bow your heads and be thankful.   2. Play holiday music with thanksgiving and not with sorrow you have been put here for a reason.   3 Donate time to a holiday charity drive. Giving back matters.   4 Check out the latest movie and go either by yourself (talk to others there) or take a friend, neighbor, or fellow-parishioner.   5 Yes, take that old tree out of the attic and decorate it and enjoy YES YOU CAN!   6 Send out Christmas Cards.   7 Get your hair done, Do a facial, and enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas.   8 Visit all the pageants and caroling in your city.   9 Read the Christmas story in the Bible and be grateful.   10 Smile when you are out; others may be more lonely than you think. --------------------------- Below My husband Robert and I started an Outreach for Medically Confined Veterans We don't always have family But we make it happen for others who are lonely   During the holiday season, it's common to experience a mix of emotions, especially if you are unable to be with your loved ones. However, finding joy and gratitude is still possible. One way to embrace the spirit of the holidays is by reaching out to those in need. Consider inviting someone who is alone for Thanksgiving to share a meal with you, spreading warmth and kindness. Additionally, engaging in charitable activities can bring a sense of fulfillment and purpose.   Embracing festive traditions like decorating a Christmas tree, sending out cards, or attending local events can uplift your spirits and create new memories. Taking care of yourself by pampering with a salon visit or enjoying a holiday movie can also be comforting during this time.   Reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas, such as reading the story from the Bible, can deepen your appreciation for the season. Remember, a simple smile or kind gesture can brighten someone else's day, especially those who may be feeling lonely.   Furthermore, the act of giving back, as demonstrated by Dr. Theresa Phillips and her husband's outreach for Medically Confined Veterans, showcases the power of compassion and community support. While the holidays may look different each year, finding ways to connect with others and spread joy can make a significant impact, not only for yourself but for those around you. www.BeAHeroToAHero.com

  • '7 Best Fruits for Healthy Skin' Kelsey Kloss

https://www.everydayhealth.com/ Susan Bard, MD How Fruits Help 7 Best Fruits The Takeaway Fruits like strawberries have a high water content, thus providing hydration for healthier skin.Ivan Pantic/iStock Fruits are part of a healthy diet, but they can do more than keep the doctor away. A diet rich in fruits can actually improve how your skin looks. “There are a number of forces that can really start to damage our skin, but the foods we eat can definitely have an impact on the health of our skin,” says Rajani Katta, MD , a board-certified dermatologist in Bellaire, Texas, who studies the connection between diet and skin health.  Common damaging forces include sun damage, unhealthy dietary choices (like alcohol and processed foods), inflammation, and dryness. [1] Here’s how fruits can boost skin health — and the best fruits to pick.  10 Ordinary Fruits With Amazing Health Benefits Discover the extraordinary health benefits of everyday fruits. 0 seconds of 15 secondsVolume 0%   Why Fruits Can Be Good for Skin Fruits can stave off oxidative stress, which occurs when factors like ultraviolet (UV) radiation or pollution produce cell-damaging molecules known as free radicals. “I describe these free radicals as hailstones pounding away at your skin,” says Dr. Katta. These “hailstones” damage the lipids (fats) that protect the skin barrier (the outer layer of the skin), adds Katta. Free radicals can also injure collagen (a structural protein in skin) and DNA. Compromised DNA can increase the risk of skin cancer, Katta says.  “The antioxidants you find in certain fruits can help neutralize or quench the free radicals that are so damaging to our skin,” says Katta.  Antioxidant-rich fruits also reduce inflammation in your body. [2] “Inflammation, in general, causes a lot of disease — including skin diseases,” says Ronald Moy, MD , a board-certified dermatologist in Los Angeles and a former president of the American Academy of Dermatology. “It may be the cause of things like psoriasis and acne .”  Finally, many fruits have high water content, which can hydrate and boost skin health, Dr. Moy says.  7 Fruits to Eat for Healthier Skin Generally, any fruits you add to your diet will promote healthy skin , but some fruits have especially potent compounds to boost skin health and appearance. Here are seven fruits to include in your diet for healthy skin. 1. Watermelon  Watermelon is considered one of the best fruits for skin because it’s high in lycopene, a pigment that gives the fruit its red color. [3]   Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that may help prevent skin damage caused by the sun. [4] Research in women ages 35 to 55 suggests that lycopene supplements taken for at least three months led to a significant improvement in the skin’s barrier’s ability to retain moisture. It also reduced the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and pores, and led to greater smoothness and firmness. [5] “Watermelon is a nice fruit to counteract the effects of increased UV radiation exposure, especially in the summertime,” says Katta.  You still need (of course) sun protection, and some UV radiation does seep through even if you wear sunscreen or hats. “It’s very helpful if the foods you eat provide a dose of antioxidants for a little extra layer of protection,” adds Katta. 2. Kiwi Another important antioxidant for skin is vitamin C . “Vitamin C is naturally present in our skin, but it’s constantly used up in the process of fighting free radicals,” says Katta. Getting vitamin C through fruits like kiwi , which provides 71 percent of your daily value (DV), helps shore up your stores to fight free radicals for skin benefits. [6] Lab and animal research shows that vitamin C supports collagen synthesis. [7]  Collagen works with other compounds, like hyaluronic acid and elastin, to help your skin maintain its elasticity, moisture, and volume. It’s also a key part of proteins (like keratin) that make up your skin. [8] Although your body naturally creates collagen, factors like aging, sun damage, alcohol, and smoking can decrease its production. [8] 3. Raspberries Raspberries are also a rich source of vitamin C, providing 36 percent of your DV per cup. [9] “Anything that increases DNA repair, which includes vitamin C, is helpful to prevent aging and skin repair,” says Moy.  Raspberries also contain a compound called ellagic acid. “In studies, animals given ellagic acid showed less redness and blistering after UV exposure,” she says. The authors of one study note that ellagic acid may offer protective effects by activating certain signaling pathways that reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, while protecting skin cells from UV damage. Combining ellagic acid with dihydromyricetin (also found in fruits and vegetables) had an even stronger protective effect than each compound alone. [10] While research in humans is limited, a past study found taking oral ellagic acid extract for four weeks helped prevent skin pigmentation in women exposed to UV light. [11] 4. Blueberries Blueberries contain compounds called anthocyanins, which give fruits and vegetables their blue or purple color.  “Anthocyanins are known to be potent antioxidants,” says Katta. Although more research is needed, some studies suggest that anthocyanins may help prevent skin aging and damage from UV light. [12] Other research shows that blueberries may help decrease inflammatory markers and boost skin hydration and barrier function. [13] 5. Bananas Bananas are beneficial for skin thanks to their vitamin B3 (also known as niacin ) content.  Some research suggests that vitamin B3 enhances DNA repair and regulates inflammation caused by UV radiation. It may also help reduce the occurrence of certain types of skin cancer in people who are at high risk. [14] Although vitamin B3 is higher in animal-based foods like beef liver, chicken , and turkey than in fruits, bananas can still help you reach your daily needs — and keep your skin healthy. One medium banana provides 5 percent of your DV of vitamin B3. [15] 6. Avocados “Avocados are a rich source of monounsaturated fatty acids,” Katta says. Monounsaturated fatty acids are healthy fats linked to reduced oxidative stress and inflammation, which may in turn protect skin from sun damage. [16] One small study in women ages 27 to 73 found that those who ate an avocado daily for eight weeks saw a significant increase in skin elasticity and firmness compared with those who did not. [17] Research shows your diet can significantly impact your skin’s levels of fatty acids. [18]  And getting monounsaturated fats from plant foods like avocados may offer unique skin perks. Higher intake of monounsaturated fatty acids from a plant source is associated with lower risk of severe sun-related skin aging in research — the same can’t be said of monounsaturated fatty acids from animal sources. [16] 7. Strawberries Eating fruits high in water content can keep your skin hydrated and healthy, says Moy. Strawberries , which are up to 91 percent water (5.3 ounces per cup), are a great choice. [19] A small study in women found that those with low daily water consumption saw an improvement in skin appearance and were able to maintain skin hydration levels by increasing their water intake over 30 days. [20] Moreover, a systematic review confirms that boosting water consumption improves hydration in the outermost layer of skin, helping decrease dryness. But it’s unclear whether this benefit is seen in older adults. [21] The Takeaway A diet rich in healthy foods, including fruits, can give your skin a boost. Fruits contain nutrients that may improve skin health by fighting oxidative stress, inflammation, and dryness. Some of the best fruits for skin include watermelon, kiwi, raspberries, blueberries, bananas, avocados, and strawberries.

  • Niacinamide — The Best Supplement to Prevent Skin Cancer...Dr. Joseph Mercola

Dr. Andrea Suarez, known online as Dr. Dray, shares some fascinating insights about niacinamide, a water-soluble form of vitamin B3 (niacin), and its benefits for skin health. 1 Niacinamide, also known as nicotinamide, is a precursor for NAD+, which is not only involved in the conversion of food to energy but is also important in the process of repairing damaged DNA. This is crucial because your skin faces constant environmental stressors, including ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which can damage DNA in skin cells and suppress your immune system. Niacinamide shows promise for skin cancer prevention due to its ability to enhance DNA repair and reduce UV-induced immunosuppression in skin cells. These mechanisms are useful in preventing the development of non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSCs), which include basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The Promise of Niacinamide for Skin Cancer Prevention Clinical trials show that taking 500 milligrams (mg) of niacinamide twice daily significantly reduce the incidence of NMSCs in high-risk individuals. 2 This news was particularly encouraging for those with a history of skin cancer. However, while many studies for skin cancer prevention use 500-mg doses, caution is warranted. Niacinamide at a dose of 50 mg three times per day is a better dose and will provide the fuel for the rate limiting enzyme for NAD+, NAMPT. I recommend getting niacinamide in powder form because the lowest available dose in most supplements is 500 mg, and that will decrease NAD+ due to negative feedback on NAMPT, which is the opposite of what you’re looking for. Other research has shown a beneficial role of niacinamide intake specifically for SCC risk reduction. In one large-scale study involving the Nurses' Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, researchers found that total niacin intake was inversely associated with SCC risk. The pooled hazard ratio was 0.84, suggesting a 16% lower risk of SCC for those with higher niacin intake. 3 Niacinamide: Your Skin's New Best Friend A study conducted in Australia and published in The New England Journal of Medicine also found that this simple supplement significantly reduces the risk of developing nonmelanoma skin cancers. 4 The study, involving 386 high-risk patients, revealed that taking 500 mg of niacinamide twice daily for 12 months led to a 23% lower rate of new nonmelanoma skin cancers compared to those taking a placebo. This effect was seen in both basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas, the two most common types of skin cancer. Again, the benefits of niacinamide were most pronounced in patients who had a history of numerous skin cancers, suggesting it might be particularly helpful for those at higher risk. The best part? Niacinamide is inexpensive, easily accessible as an over-the-counter supplement and comes with minimal, if any, side effects. In addition to reducing skin cancer risk, niacinamide showed impressive results in decreasing actinic keratoses — precancerous skin lesions that can develop into squamous cell carcinomas. Participants taking niacinamide had 11% fewer actinic keratoses at three months and 20% fewer at nine months compared to the placebo group. This translated to three to five fewer actinic keratoses on average. The mechanism behind niacinamide's protective effects lies in its ability to prevent adenosine triphosphate (ATP) depletion and boost cellular energy, enhancing DNA repair. Your cells need ATP for life, repair and regeneration. Niacinamide also reduces UV-induced immunosuppression without altering your baseline immunity, providing a two-pronged approach to skin protection. Many conventional chemopreventive agents, such as oral retinoids, cause significant side effects like dry skin, increased lipid levels and even liver toxicity. However, niacinamide showed no clinically significant adverse effects in the study. While the study used a dose of 500 mg twice daily, the minimum effective dose for skin cancer prevention is unknown. Niacinamide Reduces Skin Cancer in High-Risk Individuals If you've had multiple skin cancers in the past, niacinamide is particularly beneficial for you. A systematic review and meta-analysis revealed that niacinamide's effectiveness in preventing skin cancers tends to increase for individuals with a higher number of previous skin cancers. 5 Niacinamide was effective in reducing both BCCs and SCCs, with a 54% reduction in BCCs and a 52% reduction in SCCs compared to control groups. To reap the full benefits of niacinamide for skin cancer prevention, consistency is key. Again, the studies showing significant reductions in skin cancers used a dosage of 500 mg twice daily, taken orally for at least 12 months. This regimen appears to be effective for both healthy individuals and organ transplant recipients, who are at higher risk for skin cancers due to immunosuppression. Niacinamide: A Secret Weapon for Skin Cancer Prevention Unlike sunscreen, which blocks UV rays, niacinamide works by repairing DNA damage that has already occurred in your skin cells. This means it helps reverse past sun damage and reduce your risk of developing skin cancer, particularly BCC and SCC. As noted in the journal Cureus: 6 "By providing the precursor molecules for key components to produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP), nicotinamide also enhances DNA repair by replenishing cellular energy after UV damage. Current research also suggests that nicotinamide plays a role in blocking inflammatory cell activation and influences cell life span, survival, and cancer progression." Niacinamide's skin-protective effects stem from its ability to boost your body's natural defense mechanisms. When you take niacinamide supplements, you're providing your cells with the building blocks they need to produce ATP, the energy currency of your cells. This extra energy empowers your skin cells to repair DNA damage more efficiently after UV exposure. But that's not all — niacinamide also helps block inflammatory cell activation and influences cell lifespan and survival. This multipronged approach makes it a powerful ally in your skin cancer prevention strategy. It’s a simple addition to your daily routine that could have significant benefits for your skin health. It's especially important if you have a history of skin cancer, as studies have shown that many patients with non-melanoma skin cancers often have vitamin deficiencies. 7 By addressing these deficiencies, you're giving your skin the tools it needs to protect itself. Interestingly, a 2023 study found that patients who believed more strongly in niacinamide's ability to reduce skin cancer risk were more likely to use it consistently. 8 On average, patients perceived that niacinamide could reduce their risk of basal cell carcinoma by 31.2% and squamous cell carcinoma by 30.2%. Those who were actually taking niacinamide had an even higher perception of its effectiveness, believing it could reduce their risk by 41.2% for BCC and 38.3% for SCC. The researchers noted, "Our results should encourage providers to educate patients and their families on nicotinamide and its link to skin cancer prevention." 9 Too Much Niacinamide Can Backfire Keep in mind that the niacinamide dosages used in research studies vary widely and can be on the high side. As a general rule, I only recommend taking small doses of 50 mg of niacinamide three times a day. This dosage has been shown to optimize energy metabolism and boost NAD+ levels, which are foundational for optimal health. It can be taken four times a day if you space them out. Take a dose as soon as you get up, before going to bed, and twice evenly spaced between those times. The problem with taking too much vitamin B3, whether in the form of niacin or niacinamide, is that it might backfire and contribute to cardiovascular disease 10 , 11 and other side effects. Dray stresses the importance of proper dosage and warned about potential dangers of excessive intake: 12 "You can run into dangerous side effects when taking very high doses. You can get into toxic ranges if you take too much. Three and a half grams per day will definitely get you to toxic levels that can damage your liver." Other potential side effects of high doses include nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness and fatigue. There's also a risk of medication interactions, particularly with carbamazepine. I recommend getting niacinamide in powder form so you can control the dose. Niacinamide will only cost you about 25 cents a month if you get it as a powder. Typically, 1/64 of a teaspoon of niacinamide powder is about 50 mg. Niacinamide: A Versatile Skincare Ingredient and Overall Health Remedy While the focus of many studies is on oral supplementation, Dray also touched on the benefits of topical niacinamide in skincare products, noting, "It's actually very beneficial for a variety of skin issues when applied topically because it's anti-inflammatory, it's an antioxidant." 13 She explains that niacinamide applied topically is useful for: 14 1.Acne treatment — "Four percent niacinamide is as effective for moderate acne as 1% clindamycin." 2.Sebum reduction — "Two percent niacinamide gel ... decreases sebum production, reducing oiliness and shine." 3.Antiaging effects — "It's been demonstrated when applied anywhere from 2% to 4% to help improve the look of fine lines, red blotchiness ... It also can improve the appearance of sunspots, help them fade." 4.Rosacea management — "Niacinamide can improve barrier function and make the symptoms of rosacea … better." However, Dray notes that some individuals may find topical niacinamide irritating, especially at higher concentrations. In addition to helping your skin, oral niacinamide also benefits other aspects of health, such as: Brain health, including Alzheimer’s disease 15 Chronic pain 16 Stress reduction 17 Vision health, including glaucoma 18 Ameliorate damage caused by linoleic acid (LA) consumption The last one is particularly important, as one of the most toxic metabolic byproducts of LA is 4 HNE, a toxic aldehyde that appears to play a causative role in heart failure. 19 Fortunately, there is an enzyme system called aldehyde dehydrogenases that deactivates 4 HNE. The best way to increase the activity of this enzyme system is to make sure you have sufficient NAD+, and the most efficient way to optimize your NAD+ level is to make sure you're getting 50 mg of niacinamide three times a day. Further, as niacinamide emerges as a promising and versatile compound for skin health and cancer prevention, its ability to enhance DNA repair, reduce UV-induced immunosuppression and decrease the incidence of non-melanoma skin cancers makes it a valuable tool in dermatological care. While clinical trials have shown significant benefits at higher doses, it's crucial to approach supplementation cautiously, as excessive intake can lead to adverse effects. The recommended dosage of 50 mg three times daily in powder form strikes a balance between efficacy and safety. Beyond skin health, niacinamide offers benefits throughout your body, underlining its importance as a multifaceted supplement. As research continues to unfold, niacinamide stands out as a simple, cost-effective and generally safe addition to your health regimen, particularly for those concerned about skin cancer risk and overall skin health. There’s a reason it’s ubiquitous: Not only does hyaluronic acid do a killer job when it comes to moisturizing the skin, but it minimizes signs of aging, since plump, hydrated skin makes fine lines and wrinkles less visible. Here’s a scientific guide that touches on the basics of hyaluronic acid. What Is Hyaluronic Acid? Technically, it’s a group of sugar molecules called polysaccharides, according to research . These molecules work to cushion and lubricate, and they’re found naturally in the body’s connective tissues, notes the  Cleveland Clinic . Over time, your body’s stores of hyaluronic acid decline. Age is one reason,  research  shows, but environmental factors — such as smoking and air pollution — also accelerate this process,  according to another study . That’s the bad news. The good news is that topical products that feature hyaluronic acid, whether as part of the ingredients list in a moisturizer or as the star of a serum, can help rebuild those depleted stores, says Bonnie Gasquet, MD, an internal medicine physician at Studio Health medical center in Belle Chasse, Louisiana. “Hyaluronic acid attracts and binds to water molecules and increases the water content of the skin,” says Shari Marchbein, MD , a board-certified dermatologist in private practice in New York City. It can absorb more than 1,000 times its weight in water, Dr. Marchbein says. What Are the Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid? The key benefit of hyaluronic acid is hydration and that unbelievable ability to retain moisture. To understand how important moisture is for the skin, you have to first know that dehydrated skin — when the top layer of skin doesn’t have enough water — appears dry, rough, and flaky, Marchbein says. It’s not just a matter of aesthetics.  Dry skin  can be dangerous. “Poorly hydrated skin is unable to maintain an appropriately intact skin barrier, leaving the skin more vulnerable to damage from external and environmental sources,” Marchbein says. When the skin barrier is not intact, it can let bacteria in, which can lead to infection, according to a study . Compromised skin barriers can play a role in many skin conditions, including dry skin,  atopic dermatitis ,  rosacea , and acne, per research . Hydrated skin, then, is what you want. “Skin hydration is important because hydrated skin looks more plump, healthier, and more vibrant,” Marchbein says. It looks younger, too, if that’s one of your goals.  According to research , skin aging is associated with loss of skin moisture, and hyaluronic acid is the key ingredient when it comes to combating or reversing these signs. “Because of its water-pulling qualities, hyaluronic acid can refine and age-rewind in those dry, sunken, or ‘crepe’ areas,” Dr. Gasquet says. One study  found that over-the-counter anti-wrinkle creams containing hyaluronic acid decreased the depth of wrinkles around the lips and eyes by 10 to 20 percent over a three-month period. Skin tightness also improved by 13 to 30 percent. Gasquet recommends applying products with hyaluronic acid during the winter especially, when the skin tends to be at its driest. But even those who aren’t battling dryness will want to add hyaluronic acid to their skin-care routine. Kenneth Rothaus, MD , a board-certified plastic surgeon with Rothaus Plastic Surgery in New York City, says it’s responsible for giving the skin a healthy glow. Marchbein recommends a hyaluronic-packed moisturizer for people of all ages. “It is never too early to start a good skin-care routine,” she says. The 3 Types of Hyaluronic Acid: How They Differ There are three types of hyaluronic acid: Hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid is hyaluronic acid that has been broken down into elements small enough to penetrate the skin, Gasquet says. It’s moisturizing, but not the most moisturizing option, so it’s best for people who have oily or combination skin, since these skin types want to avoid over-moisturizing. Sodium hyaluronate goes deeper into the skin and delivers even better results, though the effects aren’t very long lasting, Gasquet says. “ Sodium hyaluronate is best for people who have normal skin because it will allow moisture to seep in, but you don’t really need a heavy-duty, long-lasting effect.” This is the ingredient you’ll likely find in serums. Sodium acetylated hyaluronate has the benefits of sodium hyaluronate but with longer-lasting results. It’s best for people who need moisture, such as those with dry skin, those who live in dry climates, or those looking for a product for the dry winter months. There’s also ingestible hyaluronic acid, which is a capsule filled with the active ingredient. The idea is that by taking a supplement, levels of the hyaluronic acid will be steady, and the effects will last, according to one study . And it appears to work: The researchers found that participants who took 120 milligrams (mg) of hyaluronic acid per day for 12 weeks improved their skin wrinkles and their overall skin condition. However, more research needs to be conducted on oral hyaluronic acid. Does Hyaluronic Acid Have Any Side Effects to Note? Hyaluronic acid is generally safe for all skin types and doesn’t typically lead to any adverse reactions when applied topically, Marchbein says. “Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance in our skin, and as a result, one should not expect any problems,” Dr. Rothaus says. “When patients complain of rashes or other problems related to hyaluronic acid–containing products, it is often a result of a problem with another ingredient, such as one of the preservatives.” Preservatives extend the life of a product, but some, including parabens , formaldehyde-releases, and isothiazolinones, can lead to irritation, according to  DermNet . Marchbein points out that hyaluronic acid is also found in a large number of injectable fillers, and while the ingredient itself is safe, the procedure can be risky and should be performed by a doctor certified by the American Board of Dermatology or the American Board of Plastic Surgery. RELATED:  A Detailed Guide to Collagen and How to Ramp Up Your Production Using Hyaluronic Acid: What to Look for in a Topical Product Name a skin-care category, and there’s probably a product featuring hyaluronic acid. You’ll find the ingredient in numerous products, including: Serums Sheet masks Eye creams Moisturizers Cleansers Lip treatments Before you purchase a topical product, follow these steps: Check for Allergens and Vitamin C Watch out for any ingredients you’re allergic to or that have caused you irritation in the past, Gasquet says. Look for a hyaluronic acid product that also lists  vitamin C  as an ingredient. The two ingredients work together to boost effectiveness, according to the  Cleveland Clinic . Look for Its Molecular Weight When you’re searching for a product, check to see if its molecular weight is listed. It isn’t always, but it’s worth looking for because it can give you a clue as to how effective the product will be. Acids with lower molecular weights (50 kilodaltons versus 2,000, for instance) can more easily penetrate the skin and have been shown to be more effective at fighting wrinkles, according to one study . That study found that even a 0.1 percent concentration of hyaluronic acid led to increased hydration and elasticity, though most products will have 1 or 2 percent. See if Alcohol Is Listed Alcohol can counteract the ingredient’s moisturizing benefits. “Isopropyl alcohol is very drying and can leave skin vulnerable to cracking, allowing skin break and possibly irritants and bacteria to enter where they do not belong,” Gasquet says. “In addition, the ‘drying effect’ can cause the cells to become less plump, the complete reverse effect of what we want.” She says to look at where alcohol appears on the ingredients list. Ingredients are listed in order of concentration, so if it’s one of the first six ingredients, the product may be drying, Gasquet says. Avoid Fragrance Nazanin Saedi, MD , the department cochair of the Laser and Aesthetics Surgery Center at Dermatology Associates of Plymouth Meeting in Pennsylvania, says products with added fragrance can cause irritation or breakouts in people with sensitive skin, so it’s best to steer clear. Fragrance can also lead to  contact dermatitis,  which is a skin rash that can appear minutes to days after contact with a trigger, says  Cleveland Clinic . Don’t Shy Away From Water Often, you’ll see that water is the first ingredient on your hyaluronic acid product. It may seem like a useless ingredient, as if it’s diluting the product, but it actually helps make the hyaluronic acid more effective. “Having a more water-based product — rather than a cream, oil, or gel — will allow the product to penetrate the skin more easily,” Gasquet says. • '10 Ingredients That Can Help Fight Signs of Premature Skin Aging' Jessica Migala

10 Ingredients That Can Help Fight Signs of Premature Skin Aging When checking product labels, seek out these ingredients that scientific research and dermatologists suggest can improve your skin health and appearance. By Jessica Migala Medically Reviewed by Susan Bard, MD Next time you’re shopping for skin-care essentials, check the labels for these beneficial anti-aging ingredients. Anna Efetova/Getty Images You want to maintain your youthful glow, and you’re willing to spend time and money to help delay premature signs of aging on your skin. And yet with so many products on the market, it can be difficult to suss out which ones have proven anti-aging ingredients and which ones are smoke and mirrors, says Joshua Zeichner, MD, director of cosmetic and clinical research in the dermatology department at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Some ingredients, such as retinol and sunscreen, do have scientifically proven anti-aging benefits, he says. Those aren’t the only ones to consider when building your healthy skin-care routine, though. Dr. Zeichner and other dermatologists recommend the following as the best anti-aging ingredients to help your skin look firm, bouncy, and glowing for years to come. 1 B Vitamins for Healthy Skin, Hair, and Nails Yulia Reznikov/Getty Images These essential vitamins appear in multiple forms and complexes in skin-care products. Yet the function of all vitamin B derivatives is the same: to convert food into energy, notes Mount Sinai. This fuels vital body processes, including those responsible for healthy, firm skin. “Vitamin B and all its derivatives are essential for healthy skin, hair, and nails,” says Joel Schlessinger, MD, a dermatologist in Omaha, Nebraska. B vitamins can be especially potent when used topically in moisturizers, Dr. Schlessinger says. When these vitamins are among the natural anti-aging ingredients in your skin-care products, damaged cells will heal and regenerate more quickly. 2 Coenzyme Q10 to Protect Collagen Coenzyme Q10 (vitamin Q) is a strong antioxidant that can help build the foundation needed for younger-looking skin, as some studies and research have noted. “Coenzyme Q10 helps protect the elastic tissue and collagen that shape your skin,” says Jessica Wu, MD, an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. As we get older, our natural coenzyme Q10 levels diminish, which may slow the skin’s ability to rejuvenate and protect itself from damage, according to the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University. To build levels of the coenzyme, many find that taking a dietary supplement in addition to using topical creams yields optimal results. One randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study found that taking a specific CoQ10 supplement (the study was funded by the supplement’s maker) daily for 12 weeks improved the appearance of wrinkles and led to smoother skin. Other research concluded that topical application of CoQ10 effectively reduced free radicals (which cause aging) on the skin. 3 Copper to Prevent Sagging and Fill Wrinkles You’re probably imagining pennies, but the copper we’re talking about is found in trace amounts in skin cells, where it binds proteins together, noted a research review. Essential for collagen formation, the anti-aging ingredient helps support the skin to prevent sagging and fill in wrinkles. Clinical studies have shown that copper contributes to the clearing and renewal of fractured collagen, making it an excellent ingredient for those who wish to improve the look of sun-damaged skin and scars. Specifically, sleeping on copper-infused pillowcases for about one or two months helped diminish the depth of crow’s-feet lines compared with control groups, according to the review. “Copper is nonirritating,” says Dr. Wu, “so it’s a good alternative for those with sensitive skin who may not be able to tolerate retinoids.” 4 Green Tea to Revitalize Your Skin You may sip a cup of warm green tea to relax, but the ancient plant from which the tea is brewed is replete with nutrients that recharge your skin. Specifically, those would be phytochemicals called polyphenols, as a review in Nutrients suggested. The stimulant qualities of green tea can also have an energizing influence on aging skin. “Green tea has a wonderful effect on dark circles — which is especially striking when combined with caffeine in eye cream,” says Schlessinger. Those polyphenols are antioxidants, which prevent and repair the damage done by oxidation, which breaks down skin cells, per a research review. Along with using creams or serums containing green tea, sip on the brew for additional health benefits. 5 Peptides to Stimulate Collagen Production Because of the promising results of clinical research, peptides are becoming increasingly popular anti-aging skin-care ingredients. Peptides are short chains of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, notes the National Human Genome Research Institute. Most topical peptide creams are designed to stimulate collagen to improve the appearance of wrinkles, says Zeichner. But not all peptide creams are created equal, so stick to products that have gone through clinical testing, he recommends. 6 Retinoids and Retinols to Speed Up Cell Turnover Over-the-counter retinols and prescription retinoids like Retin-A are derivatives of vitamin A. “Retinoids and retinols speed up and stimulate cell turnover and collagen production for smoother and younger-looking skin,” says Wu. In addition to plumping wrinkles and fine lines, retinoids counter discoloration, lighten small marks and freckles, and improve skin texture, according to research. No other topical ingredient has been more tested and scientifically proven for anti-aging by the medical community than retinoids, Wu says. But don’t expect results overnight: It takes several weeks or even months for retinol to exert its wrinkle-fighting effect, so it must be used over long periods of time, Zeichner says. Plus, retinoids and retinols can be drying, as a study noted, and can make you more sensitive to the sun, according to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). Apply them to your skin in moderation, and counter any retinoid- or retinol-containing product with daily sunscreen use. Skip Ad 7 Vitamin E to Reverse Damage and Rejuvenate Skin Vitamin E is a powerhouse when it comes to protecting against skin damage that may lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Why? The vitamin neutralizes cell-damaging free radicals, which are triggered by environmental factors like sun exposure, notes the Linus Pauling Institute. “Vitamin E is a great antioxidant to look for in rejuvenating skin creams, and it can assist with wound healing as well by strengthening the skin barrier,” says Schlessinger. This is why pure vitamin E oil remains a popular (and inexpensive) salve for cracked cuticles and scars from cuts, burns, and surgery. Topically applying both vitamins C and E together exerts the biggest benefits, as the two antioxidant vitamins work together to preserve and build collagen, according to a research review. 8 SPF to Prevent Skin Cancer (and Improve Your Appearance) Not only can broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 help prevent skin cancer, it’s also been shown to improve the cosmetic appearance of the face, even if used by itself, Zeichner says. In a study, sunscreen alone applied to the face for one year resulted in improvements of cosmetic measures like skin tone, texture, and wrinkles. 9 Vitamin C to Neutralize Damage and Lighten Dark Spots Vitamin C is an antioxidant that neutralizes damage from free radicals and helps complement the effect of your sunscreen, says Zeichner. “In the morning, I have my patients layer vitamin C underneath their sunscreen,” he says. Vitamin C interferes with abnormal pigment production, helping to lighten dark spots, he adds. What’s more, C-packed products preserve collagen fibers and prevent damage to your skin’s supportive structures, a review noted. One thing to remember when purchasing a topical vitamin C, noted the review authors, is that it is a finicky, unstable ingredient, which will lose potency quickly if not formulated correctly. If exposed to high temperatures, it may also oxidize, rendering it ineffective, according to the skin-care company Vichy. If you’ve ever bought a C serum that’s gone amber, that’s exactly what’s happening. Be sure to purchase a vitamin C product from a company that conducts clinical tests on its products and keep your product in a temperature-controlled area. Some people like to buy mini-fridges to store skin-care products like these, as Today reported. Along with applying a vitamin C serum, also load up on C-rich foods (such as strawberries and bell peppers), as consuming the vitamin also helps your body create new collagen, notes the National Institutes of Health. 10 Hydroxy Acids to Exfoliate Dead Cells and Fight Wrinkles Hydroxy acids like glycolic acid help exfoliate dead cells from the surface of the skin, according to the AAD. “They’ve also been shown to stimulate collagen and improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles,” says Zeichner. Hydroxy acids come in varying strengths and can be found in peels, serums, and creams, so it’s important to check with a board-certified dermatologist to find out which one is right for you. • How Often Do We Need To Wash Our Face?

Washing our face is critical in maintaining good skin care. Remember we must put our best face forward. According to one major brand: More than half of people say they often skip washing their face before bedtime, according to a 2017 survey on 1,000 adult men and women from a major skin-care brand. It's being recommended that twice daily is the best regime. in the evening before bed wash with a gentle cleanser and use a toner and MOISTURIZE. Washing at night will remove the grime of the day and washing in the morning will remove pillow sweat .. HAHA. The Steps are easy and not time consuming. Wash, tone, moisturize. Remember in the AM to use SUNBLOCK~! Some people are doping what's called double cleansing. Here are some thoughts on Double Cleansing How do you double cleanse? “Double cleansing is a method of cleansing your face twice: First, with an oil-based cleanser and again with a water-based cleanser. It can help remove stubborn, pore-clogging and acne-causing impurities that can remain on the skin even after washing your face once,” Is it okay to double cleanse everyday? If you have oily skin and/or wear makeup daily, you might find double cleansing every evening works just fine for you. If your skin isn't particularly oil-prone or you're only an occasional makeup wearer, double cleansing every single day probably isn't necessary — a gentle cleanser alone should do the job. How often should you double cleanse? Double cleanse every evening as part of your nighttime routine to literally take the day off. If your skin is on the oily side, you also have the option to double cleanse in the morning if you're feeling oily. Afterwards, follow with your usual skincare routine. Who should not double cleanse? While there's no outright harm in double cleansing, it's not necessary for everyone. For example, Those with sensitive skin or underlying skin conditions like rosacea or eczema should skip double cleansing during active flare-ups Bear in mind we have several cleansers...
