- Peel Season: Maximizing Results While Protecting the Skin Barrier
Alex Hernandez Adobe Stock Photo As temperatures cool and clients spend less time in direct sun, chemical peels become one of the most requested treatments. They can improve acne, pigmentation, texture, dullness and early signs of aging, making them one of the most versatile tools we have in the treatment room. But peels aren't just for fall. With the right superficial peel, consistent sunscreen use and thoughtful planning, many clients can benefit from professional exfoliation year-round. The idea that every peel has to stop when summer arrives is outdated, but reduced UV exposure may allow us to increase frequency and use more corrective approaches. In reality, fall isn’t the beginning of “peel season,” it’s when we can build on progress created all year. Start With the Right Candidate, Not the Right Peel One of the biggest mistakes I see when reviewing cases with skincare professionals is focusing on the peel before fully evaluating the person receiving it. It’s easy to jump straight into treatment planning. Before choosing an acid, strength, layer count, or contact time, ask a different question: Is this skin ready for a peel right now? A client may have hyperpigmentation, congestion, dullness, or uneven tone that would benefit from a peel but that doesn’t automatically make them treatment-ready. Don’t forget to look beyond the presenting concern. Is the skin barrier healthy enough to receive a mild peel? How reactive is the skin? Is there inflammation or dehydration? Is the client using retinoids, exfoliating acids, prescriptions, or other corrective treatments? One trend I consistently see is clients normalizing irritation because they assume it means their products are working. Constant redness, burning, stinging, or excessive peeling may indicate a barrier already under stress. If the skin is struggling before a peel, it’s unlikely to respond optimally afterward. Some of the best decisions happen when we choose not to treat that day. A few weeks restoring balance and supporting barrier function can create a better foundation. Clients may not love hearing “not yet,” but they often appreciate that you have their best interests in mind. Why Barrier Health Matters More Than Ever We've all had the client who tells us they have a "simple" routine, only to discover they're rotating between three exfoliating serums, a retinoid, a scrub and whatever product is trending on social media that week. It's no surprise that barrier impairment has become one of the most common challenges skincare professionals are navigating today. The skin barrier is doing far more than most clients realize. It's helping maintain hydration, regulating inflammation and protecting the skin from the constant stress of everyday life. When that barrier is compromised, the skin becomes more reactive. Redness, burning, stinging, dryness, flaking and prolonged recovery all become more likely, and those responses affect treatment outcomes. Chemical peels work because they create a controlled injury within the skin that stimulates renewal. That's exactly what makes them effective. But, that renewal depends on the skin having enough resilience to repair itself afterward. Correction can only move as fast as the barrier can recover because healthier barriers almost always lead to better peel tolerance and more predictable results. Fall Is the Time to Elevate, Not Start Over One of the biggest misconceptions about peel season is that fall is when corrective treatments begin. In reality, some of the best transformations start long before the weather changes. Clients who have spent the year protecting their barrier and following a consistent home-care routine often arrive in fall ready to build on that progress, not start over. Superficial peels performed throughout the year can help maintain clarity, encourage healthy cell turnover, and gradually improve concerns over time. As UV exposure decreases, treatment plans may become more corrective through increased frequency, advanced peel options, strategic layering, or a stronger focus on pigmentation, texture and acne scarring. Rather than thinking of fall as the beginning of correction, think of it as the season to build momentum. The work you've already done throughout the year allows you to move forward with greater confidence and often achieve even better results. Customization Is Everything Stop asking what the strongest peel is you can perform. Start asking what this skin needs today. That shift in thinking changes everything. Two clients may walk in with the same concern, but that doesn't mean they need the same treatment. Barrier health, lifestyle, sensitivities, home care, treatment history and even how their skin responded to previous treatments should all influence your approach. I like to think of peels the same way I think about exercise. Two people can have the exact same goal, but they don't start with the same workout. Their starting point, intensity and recovery all look different, and skin is no different. The goal isn't to perform the most aggressive peel possible, but to deliver the right amount of stimulation while preserving the skin's ability to recover. For Hyperpigmentation When treating pigmentation, more isn't always better. Overly aggressive treatments can create additional inflammation, which may worsen discoloration, especially in clients prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. A well-designed series almost always outperforms one aggressive peel. Slow, consistent progress paired with diligent home care typically produces healthier skin and more predictable results. For Acne Acne clients require an especially thoughtful approach. Exfoliation absolutely has a place in acne management, but active inflammation should influence every treatment decision, from peel selection and strength to frequency and layering. The goal isn't to create more inflammation in hopes of getting faster results. It's to support healthy cell turnover, reduce congestion and move the skin toward balance. For Aging and Texture Concerns Clients looking to improve texture, brightness and fine lines often benefit from a progressive treatment plan rather than a single intensive peel. One of the most valuable conversations you can have is setting expectations early. Rejuvenation isn't one appointment, it's a series of thoughtful decisions over time. When clients understand that, they're much more likely to choose consistency over quick fixes. For Sensitive Skin A sensitive client isn't automatically a poor peel candidate. Often success comes down to lower strengths, shorter contact times, fewer layers and longer intervals between treatments to deliver meaningful results without overwhelming the skin. Sensitive skin doesn't always need to be excluded. It just needs to be understood. Do Not Skip the Prep Work One of the biggest predictors of a successful peel isn't what happens during the appointment, it's what happens in the weeks leading up to it. A client's home-care routine should support your treatment plan, not compete with it. Sometimes preparation means reducing exfoliation. Other times it means adjusting active ingredients, prioritizing hydration, strengthening the barrier, or reinforcing the importance of daily sunscreen. Those changes don't just prepare the skin, they also tell you how the skin behaves. If a client becomes highly reactive after a small adjustment in home care, that's valuable information when deciding whether they're truly ready for a peel. Sometimes the best peel you'll perform is the one you decide to postpone, not because the skin doesn't need correction but because it needs preparation first. Common Peel Season Mistakes Even the best peel protocols can fall short when we lose sight of the fundamentals. Over the years, I've noticed the same few patterns come up again and again. They're easy mistakes to make, but they're also some of the easiest to correct once you recognize them. Mistake #1: Equating More Peeling with Better Results One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding chemical peels is that visible peeling equals a successful treatment. Many clients still judge their results by how much skin sheds, and if we're not careful, our industry can unintentionally reinforce that belief. The reality is that visible peeling isn't a measure of effectiveness, it’s merely a side effect. I've seen clients make incredible progress with very little flaking, and I've seen aggressive treatments create a great deal of inflammation without producing better results. The goal isn't maximum peeling; it's healthy and controlled renewal. When clients understand that they begin focusing on healthier skin instead of dramatic downtime, and that's a much better measure of success. Mistake #2: Ignoring Inflammation Inflammation has a way of quietly changing the course of a treatment plan. When you see persistent redness, irritation, sensitivity, or signs of barrier disruption, resist the urge to push forward with more correction. Instead, pause and ask yourself a different question: Does this skin need more correction, or does it need more support? Mistake #3: Increasing Intensity Too Quickly Every peel should earn the next peel. It can be tempting to assume that each treatment needs to be stronger than the last, but progression isn't about increasing intensity, it's about responding to the skin in front of you. Look at how the client healed. Consider their sensitivity, their home-care compliance, and whether the previous treatment moved them closer to their goal. Those answers should guide your next decision far more than the calendar or the number of treatments they've completed. The skin will tell you what it's ready for. The Real Work Happens After the Peel The peel itself may only take 30 to 60 minutes, but that's only one part of the treatment. What happens over the next several days often has just as much influence on the final outcome. Before your client leaves, make sure they know exactly what to expect. Walk them through what they'll likely experience over the next several days, how to care for their skin at home, which products to avoid, and when they should reach out if something doesn't seem right. Clear expectations don't just improve compliance, they build trust. When clients understand what's happening and why, they're far more likely to follow your recommendations and feel confident throughout the healing process. A successful peel is measured by how well the skin recovers afterward. Final Thoughts If there's one idea I hope you take away from this article, it's this: Peel season isn't about performing the strongest peel you can. It's about making thoughtful clinical decisions that help your clients reach their goals safely, consistently and sustainably. The best outcomes come from evaluating the whole picture -- barrier health, lifestyle, home care, treatment history and the skin's ability to heal. After years behind the chair and now spending my days educating, troubleshooting and reviewing cases alongside estheticians, one lesson continues to stand out: The best results come from doing what's right for the skin in front of you. Sometimes that means challenging the skin, but sometimes it means supporting it instead. Knowing the difference is what separates a good peel provider from a great one. Great peel providers are remembered for making thoughtful clinical decisions, helping clients build healthier skin, and earning the trust that keeps clients coming back long after peel season is over. Credit: Getty Images Eating Well Design Honey and garlic can support your immune system separately—but that doesn’t mean you should combine them. By Lauren Manaker M.S., RDN, LD, CLEC Reviewed by Dietitian Jessica Ball, M.S., RD Mixing garlic and honey at room temperature can create conditions for botulism, a serious illness. Enjoy garlic and honey separately to reap their benefits without the risk. Support your immune system with vitamin C–rich foods, exercise and balanced nutrition. Cold and flu season is upon us, which means that if you scroll through social media, you’ll likely stumble across jars of garlic cloves soaking in honey. Many wellness influencers call it a natural antibiotic and an immune-supporting pantry staple, with some of these videos racking up hundreds of thousands of likes. And on the surface, the pitch sounds harmless—you just need a jar, some local honey and several cloves of garlic to keep seasonal sniffles at bay. The problem is that this homemade remedy can create the right conditions for Clostridium botulinum to grow and thrive—and that particular bacterium can cause botulism, a rare illness that can be fatal.1 Before you start making a batch of this honey-garlic concoction, it helps to understand what is actually happening inside that jar. Let’s break down the science—and a few more ways you can support your immune system this season. Is Honey-Fermented Garlic Good for You? It is true that honey and garlic both carry some antimicrobial properties on their own.23 But combining them and leaving the mixture at room temperature changes the picture significantly. The concern is Clostridium botulinum, which produces a toxin that thrives in low-oxygen environments and needs specific acidity levels to grow.4 A sealed jar of garlic honey can check both boxes. Honey by itself is a poor home for bacteria because it contains very little available water, which is why it resists spoiling and mold. Garlic, though, holds plenty of moisture. When you submerge garlic in honey, the honey begins to pull water out of the cloves. That added water, combined with a low-oxygen setting, can give dormant C. botulinum spores the opening they need to multiply and produce toxin, especially if the fermentation does not lower the mixture’s pH quickly enough, per an article published in Scientific American.5 Related Stories 5 Unexpected Foods That Are Especially Dangerous When Left Out Too Long The FDA Expands Recall on Frozen Berries Due to E. Coli—Sold at Walmart, Trader Joe’s and More What Is Botulism? Botulism is not a stomachache that passes in a day. The toxin attacks the nervous system, and symptoms can include muscle weakness, slurred speech, difficulty breathing, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. In serious cases, it causes paralysis.6 One of the most dangerous effects is on the diaphragm, the muscle responsible for breathing.1 If it becomes paralyzed, a person can stop breathing entirely. The illness is treatable with an antitoxin when caught early, but it can be lethal without prompt medical care.7 The good news is that botulism is genuinely rare. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021 saw just 243 confirmed cases and 30 additional probable cases, the most recent year with full data.8 Babies are especially vulnerable because their gut microbiome has not yet developed the defenses that typically help adults fend off the bacteria. Adults have a more mature immune system and gut flora that generally inhibit C. botulinum from taking hold, though adult cases do occur on rare occasions. For that reason, health authorities advise never giving raw honey to children under a year old.1 How to Support Your Immune System The good news is that you don’t need a risky jar on your counter to help your body through flu season. Several well-studied habits offer real support with much less risk of foodborne illness. Get your vitamin C. Regular vitamin C intake will not stop a cold in its tracks, but the evidence is steadier than the hype suggests. Vitamin C plays a role in immune modulation, which means it helps the immune system function properly and respond the way it should.9 Bisht S, Sina RE, Patel P. Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid). 2026. In: StatPearls [Internet]. Treasure Island (FL): StatPearls Publishing; 2026 Jan–. Citrus fruit, bell peppers, strawberries and broccoli are easy everyday sources.10 Keep moving. Regular, moderate exercise is linked to better immune function and fewer respiratory infections. One study found that regular, moderate exercise is associated with stronger immune surveillance, better antibody responses and a lower risk of some infections.11 Eat the garlic and honey separately. If you like both ingredients, you can still enjoy them. Just skip the fermentation. Raw garlic and raw honey each offer antioxidant potential when consumed on their own.23 Combining and fermenting them adds risk without adding meaningful benefit. Our Expert Take Homemade remedies can feel empowering, but they aren’t a replacement for medical care—and this honey-garlic mixture could put you at a greater risk for botulism. If you think you need treatment for an infection, the right move is to talk to a health care provider or pharmacist. We recommend keeping your honey and garlic separate, or consider enjoying them in a comforting recipe that will keep you warm and cozy all season long.
- Skincare Steps That Are Easy for Everyone
Theresa Phillips Founder Redeem And Renew Beauty #1 Use a Wash and thoroughly cleanse, including eye makeup remover Initiating your skincare routine requires a comprehensive cleansing process. Opt for a gentle yet effective cleanser that matches your skin type, such as a gel-based one for oily skin or a cream-based one for dry skin. Apply the cleanser to your face in circular motions, ensuring you cover all areas, including the forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. Use lukewarm water to rinse away impurities, makeup, and excess oil. This step not only helps to unclog pores but also primes your skin to better absorb subsequent products. It is recommended to cleanse your face twice daily, in the morning and evening, to maintain a fresh and healthy complexion. NEW Makeup Remover 2 Toner After cleansing, the next step in your skincare regimen is to apply a toner. Toners serve multiple purposes: they help to balance the skin's pH levels after cleansing, remove any residual makeup or cleanser, and prepare the skin for better absorption of serums and moisturizers. Look for a toner that is alcohol-free to avoid over-drying the skin. Ingredients such as witch hazel, rose water, or aloe vera can provide soothing benefits. Apply the toner using a cotton pad or by patting it directly onto the skin with your hands. This step can enhance your skin's overall texture and provide a refreshing sensation. 3 Serum 1 The third step involves applying your first serum. Serums are concentrated formulas that target specific skin concerns, such as hydration, brightening, or anti-aging. Depending on your skin's needs, you might choose a hyaluronic acid serum for hydration, a vitamin C serum for brightening, or a peptide serum for anti-aging benefits. Dispense a few drops of the serum onto your fingertips and gently press it into your skin, focusing on areas that need extra attention. Allow the serum to absorb completely before moving on to the next step. This will ensure that your skin reaps the full benefits of the active ingredients. Steam face with Warm Washcloth After applying the first serum, you can enhance its effectiveness by steaming your face with a warm washcloth. This can be achieved by soaking a clean washcloth in hot water, wringing it out, and placing it over your face for a few minutes. The warmth opens up your pores, allowing the serum to penetrate deeper into the skin. This method not only promotes relaxation but also helps to improve circulation, giving your skin a radiant glow. Make sure the cloth is warm but not too hot to avoid burns. 4 Serum 2 Following the steaming process, it is time to apply your second serum. This serum can be chosen based on your evolving skin care needs or to target additional concerns that may not have been addressed by the first serum. For example, if you used a hydrating serum earlier, you might opt for a serum that focuses on anti-aging or skin repair. As with the first serum, dispense a few drops and gently massage it into your skin, ensuring even distribution. This layering technique can significantly amplify the benefits of both serums, leading to healthier skin over time. Steam face with Warm Washcloth Once again, repeat the steaming process with the warm washcloth after applying the second serum. This additional step can help to further enhance absorption and allows the active ingredients in the second serum to penetrate deeply into the skin. The warmth of the cloth can also provide a calming effect, making your skincare routine feel more like a spa treatment. Take a moment to enjoy this soothing experience, as it can contribute to both your skin's health and your overall well-being. 5 Moisturizer The final step in your daily skincare routine is the application of a moisturizer. Moisturizers are vital for locking in hydration and creating a protective barrier on the skin. Choose a moisturizer that fits your skin type—lightweight gel formulas for oily skin or richer creams for dry skin. Apply the moisturizer evenly across your face and neck, ensuring that it absorbs well. This step not only hydrates but also helps to seal in all the beneficial ingredients from the previous steps, leaving your skin feeling soft, smooth, and nourished. Incorporating a moisturizer into your routine is essential for maintaining skin elasticity and preventing dryness. Now sometimes you can add a 3rd serum like retinol but use on occasion not part of a daily ritual. Retinol is great for acne-prone skin and oily skin. On occasion, it can be used on dry skin to give a boost but not on a weekly basis. While the aforementioned steps form a solid daily skincare routine, incorporating a third serum, such as retinol, can provide additional benefits. Retinol is renowned for its ability to promote cell turnover, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improve overall skin texture. However, it is important to use retinol sparingly, as it can be potent and may cause irritation if used too frequently. For those with oily or acne-prone skin, retinol can be a game-changer, helping to keep breakouts at bay while promoting a clearer complexion. For individuals with dry skin, retinol can be beneficial as a periodic treatment to rejuvenate the skin, but it is advisable to limit its use to avoid excessive dryness. A good practice is to apply retinol once or twice a week, allowing your skin to adjust to its effects. Always follow up with a moisturizer to mitigate any potential dryness and ensure your skin remains hydrated. Serums of most kinds should be used at night giving yoru skin a chance to rest in the facial. Hope all this helps Theresa RedeemAndRenew@Hotmail.com
- The Surprising Benefits of Napping Every Day!
Napping may have benefits for mood and clarity, but a nap isn’t always the best choice. Naps may make you feel groggy or leave you struggling to fall asleep at night. Taking a 20-minute nap before 2 or 3 p.m. may be your best bet for feeling refreshed. Hey there! So, let’s chat about napping! You know that feeling when your eyelids are getting heavy in the afternoon? Ugh, it’s the worst! But is giving in to that urge a good idea? Or will it just leave you feeling like a zombie? Well, it turns out that in many cases, taking a nap every day isn’t such a bad idea after all! https://pixabay.com/ “Daily napping offers significant benefits for mood, mental clarity, and physical performance,” says Allison Brager, Ph.D. But hold on! Sleep experts also say there are times when napping might not be the best choice. Let’s dive into the perks and pitfalls of daily napping! Benefits of Napping Every Day Naps Can Be Restorative Oh, the joy of a quick nap! Just a little snooze can leave you feeling mentally refreshed. You might wake up feeling more energetic and recharged. It’s like hitting the reset button! Research even shows that napping supports physical performance and recovery—especially for those of us who love to stay active! Eric Zhou, Ph.D., says, “We experience a circadian rhythm dip in the early afternoon. This is a normal event that corresponds with many of us feeling sluggish and sleepy.” Naps can be incredibly restorative! If you didn’t get enough sleep the night before, a quick nap can be a lifesaver. “Napping daily is ideal for individuals who are chronically sleep-deprived and need to pay off sleep debt,” Brager explains. Naps Can Boost Your Mood Feeling a bit cranky? A nap might just be the solution! Research shows that napping can help regulate and improve mood. It can leave you feeling happier, with better self-control and more grit. I mean, who doesn’t want that? We’ve all been there—when we don’t get enough sleep, we can be a bit of a grump. A quick nap can be an easy fix to lift your spirits! “Sleep, in general, balances our emotions,” says Lauri Leadley, CCSH, RPSGT. Downsides of Napping Every Day You May Feel Groggy After Your Nap Now, let’s talk about the not-so-fun side of napping. Longer naps? Not always the best idea! Especially if you’re not a shift worker. If you sleep for 30 to 60 minutes, you might enter deep sleep. And waking up from deep sleep can leave you feeling groggy and disoriented. Yikes! Brager warns, “Waking up from a poorly timed nap can leave you feeling disoriented, groggy, and more fatigued than before you lay down.” No one wants that! You May Struggle to Fall Asleep at Night Another downside? Napping at random times can confuse your body’s circadian clock. Your internal clock relies on consistent cues to regulate your sleep-wake cycle. If you nap at different times every day, it can be tough for your body to know when to be alert or sleepy. This might lead to a hard time falling asleep at night. Long naps or napping too late in the day can also mess with your nighttime sleep. If your daily nap leaves you feeling great and doesn’t impact your nighttime sleep, then keep it up! But if you notice that your afternoon siesta is causing trouble at night, it might be time to rethink that nap. Tips to Keep in Mind for Naps Don’t rely too much on naps. Naps can be super helpful, but if you need one every day to function, it might be time to check in with a doctor. Set an alarm! Keep your naps to about 20 minutes. “Ideally, 20 minutes can boost alertness and energy without entering deep sleep,” Leadley suggests. Avoid napping after 2 or 3 p.m. This can help protect your restorative sleep at night. Create a comfy sleep environment. A cool, quiet room can help you fall asleep faster. Consider using an eye mask or earplugs! Our Expert Take Short daily naps at the right times can restore energy and leave you feeling refreshed. They can also improve your mood and help you feel less irritable. But there are some downsides too. Waking up from a nap that’s a bit too long may leave you feeling groggy. And long naps or those taken late in the day can interfere with a good night’s sleep. Ultimately, quick daily naps can be healthy, experts say. But if a nap is the only way you can function, it’s probably a good idea to check in with a doctor. Beth Krietsch Eating Well Magazine is a great resource for Wellness

Know Your Skin Type Like the Back of Your Hand Before you even think about clicking “add to cart,” get clear on your skin type. Is it oily, dry, combination, sensitive, or normal? This knowledge is your skincare compass. For example, if you have oily skin, you’ll want to avoid heavy creams that clog pores. If you’re sensitive, steer clear of products with harsh fragrances or alcohol. Pro tip: Many brands offer online skin quizzes or consultations. Use them! They can help you narrow down your options and find products tailored just for you. Take Our Skin Quiz 2. Read Ingredients Carefully (Yes, Really!) Ingredients are the heart of any skincare product. Don’t just trust the pretty packaging or catchy product names. Look for ingredients that are proven to work for your skin concerns. For example: Hyaluronic acid for hydration Niacinamide for brightening and calming Salicylic acid for acne-prone skin Retinol for anti-aging And watch out for potential irritants like alcohol, synthetic fragrances, or parabens if you have sensitive skin. 3. Check Out Real Customer Reviews (The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly) Reviews are gold mines! But don’t just skim the 5-star ratings. Dive into the 3-star and 1-star reviews too. They often reveal how the product performs in real life, including any downsides. Look for reviews from people with a similar skin type to yours for the most relevant insights. 4. Start Small with Samples or Travel Sizes I can’t stress this enough: never commit to a full-size product without testing it first. Many online stores offer samples or travel sizes. Grab those! It’s a small investment to avoid a big mistake. Plus, it’s perfect for trying out new brands or ingredients without breaking the bank. Know whats in your skincare Read Labels Understanding the ingredients in your skincare products is crucial for maintaining healthy skin and ensuring that you are using products that are beneficial rather than harmful. What is the Highest Rated Skin Care Line? Curious about which skincare line tops the charts? While there are tons of amazing brands out there, the highest rated ones usually have a few things in common: Transparent ingredient lists Clinically backed formulas Positive customer feedback across multiple platforms Ethical practices like cruelty-free testing and sustainable packaging Brands that tick these boxes tend to build loyal followings and rave reviews. Eye-level view of a minimalist skincare shelf with neatly arranged bottles How to Spot Fake or Low-Quality Products Online Okay, this one’s super important. The internet is full of counterfeit or expired skincare products, especially on less reputable sites. Here’s how to avoid getting duped: Shop from official brand websites or trusted retailers Avoid deals that seem too good to be true (like 90% off!) Check product packaging and batch codes if you’re familiar with the brand’s usual look Read reviews about the seller, not just the product If you’re ever in doubt, reach out to the brand directly to verify the seller’s authenticity. My Go-To Strategy for Finding the Best Online Skincare Here’s my personal game plan that always works: Identify my skin needs (hydration, anti-aging, acne control, etc.) Research ingredients and brands that specialize in those concerns Read a mix of expert reviews and user testimonials Order samples or travel sizes first Test for at least a week before committing Keep a skincare journal to track how my skin reacts This method keeps me from impulse buys and helps me build a skincare routine that truly delivers. The Royal Spa Kit now comes wiht Under Eye Cream with Caffeine Caption: Ready to start your redeeming skincare routine? Gather your essentials and let’s go! Building Your Redeeming Skincare Routine: Step by Step Alright, let’s break it down. A good routine doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, simplicity is key. Here’s how I like to do it: 1. Cleanse Like a Pro Start with a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type. Whether you’re oily, dry, or combo, cleansing is your first step to wipe away dirt, oil, and makeup. Pro tip: double cleansing at night can be a game-changer! 2. Exfoliate (But Don’t Overdo It) Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and reveals fresh skin underneath. Use our exfoliating pads 2 times a week. Avoid harsh scrubs that can irritate your skin. 3. Tone It Up Toners balance your skin’s pH and prep it for the next steps. Look for hydrating toners with ingredients like rose water or witch hazel. 4. Serum Power This is where the magic happens. Serums are packed with active ingredients that target specific concerns — think vitamin C for brightness, hyaluronic acid for hydration, or niacinamide for calming redness. 5. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize Lock in all that goodness with a moisturizer that fits your skin’s needs. Lightweight gels for oily skin, rich creams for dry skin — pick what feels right. 6. Don’t Forget Sunscreen Even if you’re indoors most of the day, sunscreen is a must. It protects your skin from UV damage and prevents premature aging. Stick to this routine consistently, and you’ll be amazed at how your skin transforms. What is the 1 Anti-Aging Product? Okay, let’s get to the juicy part. If you’re wondering what the holy grail anti-aging product is, I’m here to spill the tea. Drumroll, please... Retinol. Yep, that’s the superstar everyone raves about. Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A and is known for its ability to speed up cell turnover, boost collagen production, and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. But here’s the catch — retinol can be a bit intense, especially if you’re new to it. Start slow! Use a pea-sized amount 2 times a week at night, and always follow with moisturizer. And please, never skip sunscreen during the day because retinol makes your skin more sensitive to the sun. If retinol isn’t your thing, peptides and antioxidants like vitamin C are also fantastic for anti-aging benefits. Eye-level view of a small jar of retinol cream on a bathroom shelf Caption: Retinol cream - the #1 anti-aging product to renew your skin How to Redeem Your Skin After a Bad Skincare Phase We’ve all been there — that phase where your skin just won’t cooperate. Maybe you tried too many products at once, or stress got the best of you. No shame! The good news? You can totally bounce back. Here’s how I recommend redeeming your skin: Simplify your routine: Strip it back to basics. Cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Let your skin breathe. Hydrate like crazy: Drink water, use hydrating serums, and avoid drying ingredients. Avoid harsh treatments: No peels, scrubs, or strong acids until your skin calms down. Get enough sleep: Beauty sleep is real, folks. Eat skin-friendly foods: Think antioxidants, omega-3s, and vitamins. Remember, patience is key. Your skin needs time to heal and renew. Bonus Tips to Keep Your Skin Glowing All Year Round Want to keep that radiant skin vibe going strong? Here are some extra nuggets of wisdom: Change your pillowcases regularly: Dirty pillowcases = breakouts. Use a humidifier in dry months: Keeps your skin from drying out. Don’t forget your neck and chest: These areas show aging too! Stay active: Exercise boosts circulation and gives your skin a natural glow. - Summer Skin Needs Your Attention
Theresa Phillips Formulator and Found of Redeem And Renew Beauty has passed 65 Years old... And, She is not retiring. Summer is here, and we are absolutely loving the opportunity to spend more time outside, soaking in the warmth and beauty of the season. The gardens are in full bloom, showcasing vibrant colors and fragrant flowers that attract bees and butterflies. Among the essential items we keep in our outdoor spaces, a wide-brimmed hat stands out as a must-have accessory. I wear mine all the time, not just for style, but for the crucial protection it provides against the sun's harsh rays. The right hat can make a significant difference in keeping your face and neck shaded, allowing you to enjoy the outdoors without the worry of sunburn. For those who are passionate about water activities, whether it’s swimming, kayaking, or lounging by the pool, it's vital to have great protection from the sun's reflection off the water. The shimmering surface can amplify the sun's rays, increasing the risk of sunburn, especially in areas where you might not be paying attention. It’s easy to forget about applying sunscreen when you’re having fun, but the consequences can be painful and long-lasting. Always remember to use a broad-spectrum sunblock with a high SPF, applying it generously and reapplying every couple of hours, especially after swimming or sweating. Another important tidbit to consider this summer is the footwear you choose to wear. It has been recently reported about the dangers associated with wearing flip-flops, which may seem like the perfect summer footwear but can pose various risks to your feet. While they are convenient and easy to slip on, flip-flops often lack the support and protection that our feet need. They can lead to misalignment, discomfort, and even injuries due to their flat design and lack of cushioning. For more information on this topic, you can read about it here. As we enjoy the sunny days, please be mindful of your feet during the summer months. The pavement can become extremely hot, especially during peak sun hours, and walking barefoot can lead to painful burns. It’s important to choose appropriate footwear that provides both comfort and protection. Additionally, lying on a raft or lounging by the pool without sunblock can also lead to burns on your feet, so always be cautious and ensure that every exposed area is covered with sunscreen. Furthermore, we often overlook our hands during the summer, but they can show signs of aging just like any other part of our body. I’ve noticed that my hands have aged a lot, and I’m actively working on that by using moisturizing creams and treatments to keep them looking youthful. It’s easy to forget that our hands are exposed to the sun as much as our faces, so applying sunscreen to them is just as crucial. Another aspect to consider during this season is our diet, particularly our salt intake. Yes, we all tend to indulge a bit more during summer barbecues and beach outings, but it’s essential to remember to balance that with proper hydration. Excessive salt can lead to dehydration, especially in the heat. Therefore, it’s a good idea to take in some electrolytes to help replenish what our bodies lose through sweat and to maintain optimal hydration levels. Here are some products I use much more in the summer to help me stay protected and comfortable. From high-SPF sunscreens to hydrating lotions and supportive sandals, these items make a significant difference in how I enjoy the season. Keeping my skin healthy and my feet happy allows me to fully embrace the joys of summer without the worry of discomfort or sun damage. Enjoy the season Have Fund and Love Your Skin Gracefully Theresa RedeemAndRenew@hotmail.com
- Spring and Summer Skin Preparations Are You Ready?
As the season shifts, everything naturally starts to feel lighter. Clothes get easier, the days stretch out, and skin that’s been tucked under layers all winter starts asking for a break. Less heaviness. Less fixing. Less doing the most. Spring isn’t about starting over—it’s about softening what’s already there. This is a transition period for skin. Not a detox or a dramatic reset, but a gentle adjustment. One that leans toward comfort and ease. The goal isn’t perfect skin. It’s skin that looks refreshed, moves easily, and has a healthy, natural glow. Skin that feels good being seen, just as it is. The Steps 1. Start Clean, Not Stripped Cold months encourage heavy-duty cleansing—rich formulas designed to break down layers of protection, makeup, and buildup. As the weather warms, that approach can start to feel like too much. Skin doesn’t need to be erased to be clean. Spring cleansing should focus on freshness without disruption. Look for textures that rinse away easily and leave the skin feeling balanced, not tight or squeaky. The face should feel calm afterward, not like it’s waiting to be rescued by the next step. Morning cleansing can be especially minimal. For many, a gentle rinse or a light cleanse is enough to reset the skin while preserving its natural barrier. 2. Rethink Hydration as Light Layers Winter skincare is about locking everything down. Spring skincare is about letting things move again. Hydration should feel almost imperceptible—absorbing quickly, leaving behind bounce instead of residue. This is a good time to favor water-based textures and streamlined formulas that focus on replenishing moisture without adding bulk. Apply hydration while skin is still slightly damp and pause before layering anything else. When it’s right, the skin feels plump and comfortable, not glossy or weighed down. More steps don’t equal better results. Often, one thoughtfully chosen hydrator can replace several. 3. Exfoliate Gently, Infrequently As skin becomes more exposed to sunlight and shifting temperatures, restraint matters. Spring is not the season for aggressive resurfacing. Overdoing it now can quickly lead to sensitivity, redness, and that tight, shiny look that’s often mistaken for glow. Instead, think maintenance. Occasional exfoliation—about once a week—is enough to lift dullness and smooth texture without stressing the skin. Subtle, low-strength exfoliation paired with hydration is ideal. 4. Moisturize Without Smothering Skipping moisturizer in warmer months is a common mistake. Hydration alone isn’t enough—skin still needs something to seal it in. The difference is texture. Spring calls for moisturizers that feel breathable: lightweight lotions, gel-creams, or fluid emulsions that melt into the skin and disappear. They should support hydration while allowing skin to feel flexible and natural throughout the day. If your moisturizer feels like it’s sitting on top of your skin instead of becoming part of it, it’s probably too heavy for this season. 5. Let Skin Look Like Skin A seasonal reset isn’t only about formulas—it’s about mindset. Spring is an opportunity to stop overcorrecting and start supporting. A little redness, freckles surfacing again, subtle unevenness—these aren’t problems. They’re signs of skin responding to light, warmth, and life. If makeup is part of your routine, let it follow the same logic. Sheer coverage. Creamy textures. Products that enhance rather than obscure. When skin is well cared for, it doesn’t need much else. 6. Keep It Editable One of the easiest ways to know your routine is working? It feels flexible. Spring skincare thrives on simplicity. A gentle cleanse, a lightweight hydration step, and a breathable moisturizer can carry you through most days. Everything beyond that becomes optional—useful when needed, but not mandatory. Skin doesn’t need to be loud to be beautiful. Spring skin is subtle. It reflects light softly. It feels comfortable in its own rhythm. And most importantly, it feels like yours—just lighter. - Tallow vs. Jojoba Oil: Which is Better for Your Skin?
Understanding Tallow Tallow is a rendered form of beef or mutton fat. It’s been around for centuries! People have used it in cooking and candle-making. But did you know it has skincare benefits too? Tallow is famous for its moisturizing properties. It closely mimics the natural oils in our skin. Rich in fatty acids and vitamins A, D, E, and K, tallow nourishes and hydrates. Your skin will feel soft and supple! A study even found that applying tallow topically can boost skin hydration levels by up to 20% in just a week! But hold on—there’s a catch. Tallow can cause acne. The Drawbacks of Tallow Even though tallow hydrates, it’s important to know that it’s comedogenic. This means it can clog pores . Yikes! This is a big concern for anyone's skin. Did you know that around 35% of people with oily or sensitive skin experience breakouts from comedogenic products? Tallow can also trigger allergic reactions or irritate the skin. This risk increases if the tallow is unrefined. Unrefined tallow may contain impurities from processing, like hormones or antibiotics. These can lead to irritation and unwanted breakouts. Plus, some tallow products have phenoxyethanol, a synthetic preservative. The Importance of Proper Storage Proper storage is crucial when using tallow in skincare. If you don’t store it correctly, tallow can spoil and become rancid. Rancid tallow loses its skin benefits and can cause irritation and breakouts. Always keep tallow in a cool, dark place. Use it within a few months after opening for the best results! Introducing Jojoba Oil Now, let’s talk about jojoba oil! Extracted from the seeds of the jojoba plant, it’s a superstar in the skincare world. Unlike tallow, jojoba oil is a liquid wax. It closely resembles the natural sebum our skin produces . This unique structure allows it to penetrate the skin without blocking pores . Non-comedogenic and lightweight, jojoba oil is perfect for all skin types! It balances oil production, ensuring hydration without the risk of breakouts. Packed with vitamins E and B, along with powerful antioxidants, jojoba oil soothes and protects your skin and its barrier. Benefits of Jojoba Oil for All Skin Types Let’s dive into why jojoba oil is so amazing! One of its best benefits is regulating oil production. For those with oily skin, this can be a game-changer! By mimicking natural oils, jojoba oil signals your skin to produce less oil. This helps prevent clogged pores and breakouts. But wait, there’s more! Jojoba oil has anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce redness and irritation linked to acne . Research shows that regular use can decrease acne-related redness by up to 30%! It also fights acne-causing bacteria effectively. And for those with dry skin? Jojoba oil is highly beneficial ! Here’s how: Hydrates and Moisturizes : Jojoba oil is an emollient that traps moisture in the skin, keeping it hydrated and supple. Reduces Flaking and Itching : Its moisturizing properties soothe and calm dry, irritated skin, reducing flaking and itching. Improves Skin Barrier Function : Jojoba oil mimics the skin's natural oils, strengthening the skin barrier and preventing moisture loss. Anti-inflammatory Properties : The oil contains antioxidants, like vitamin E, which can reduce redness and swelling associated with dry skin. Non-Comedogenic : Jojoba oil won’t clog pores or cause acne—yay! Comparing Tallow and Jojoba Oil So, how do tallow and jojoba oil stack up against each other? Let’s break it down! Tallow : It offers deep hydration and nourishment. However, its comedogenic nature makes it less suitable for skin. The risk of clogged pores and potential allergic reactions might outweigh the benefits for those dealing with breakouts. Jojoba Oil : Its non-comedogenic properties and ability to balance oil production make it a safer choice for acne-prone skin. With soothing and protective qualities, it helps maintain healthy skin without making acne worse. How to Incorporate Jojoba Oil into Your Skincare Routine Ready to add jojoba oil to your routine? Here’s how to do it: Cleanse : Start with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt and impurities. Apply Firm And Glow : After cleansing, apply a few drops of Firm And Glow / to your face. You can use it alone or mix it with your favorite moisturizer. Use as Makeup Remover : Jojoba oil dissolves makeup effortlessly without stripping your skin. It’s perfect for cleansing! Spot Treatment : For targeted care, apply a small amount directly to blemishes. This helps reduce inflammation and promotes healing. Moisturizer : Royal Glow can act as a lightweight moisturizer, especially in warmer months when heavier creams feel greasy. Final Thoughts When choosing between tallow and jojoba oil .. Jojoba oil is the clear winner! Its non-comedogenic properties and oil-balancing effects make it ideal for preventing breakouts while promoting skin health. While tallow has its perks, the risks of clogged pores and allergic reactions make it less suitable for those battling acne. By opting for jojoba oil, you can nourish your skin without worsening acne. This leads to a clearer, healthier complexion! Incorporating jojoba oil into your skincare routine can significantly enhance your skin’s appearance. Always patch test new products and consult a dermatologist for personalized advice. With the right approach, you can enjoy the benefits of effective and natural skincare without compromising your skin’s health. Check Out Our New Product Jojoba Essence Boost
